Pastoral Letter - 10th October, 2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ.

Last week I focused on the International Day of Older Persons. This week I will focus on Ministries month.

Ministries month, formerly called ‘Candidates month’ is one that should really be emphasized within our church. This is in order to ensure that we continue to acknowledge the existence of other ministries within the church and to seek to recruit and encourage persons to offer themselves for other forms of ministry within the church. Yet we must never lose sight of the need for candidates for the ordained ministry.

I once heard a song which emphasized the fact that there is a place in God’s church for every person. I really believe this is true because I believe that when God created us he gave us various gifts. Let me hasten to say, however, that these gifts were not given to us just for us to boast on others but in order for us to use our gifts to edify, build and strengthen each other in our service of Christ.

Therefore, the use of our gifts in ministry is not just about what we do but why we do it. Consider the following quotation on ministry, Let every man abide in the calling wherein he is called and his work will be as sacred as the work of the ministry. It is not what a man does that determines whether his work is sacred or secular, it is why he does it. While it acknowledges that each of us has a calling to ministry, it also makes the important point, that even the calling we have from God and the gifts we were given for ministry, can become secular rather than sacred if we use them for the wrong reason.

So with that said I challenge every one of you to find your place of ministry within your church and community. Take time out to seek God’s will and purpose for your life. God placed you in this world for a purpose and it is important that you seek to discover, understand and fulfill your God given purpose. So if you feel you are being called to be an ordained minister talk to your minister and seek to pursue your calling as such. However, if you are called to be a minister in any other area, women, men ,children or in any other area answer God’s call without delay.

Love and best wishes to your wonderful family, from my family and myself.

Yours in Christ
